Assessments
Psychological Assessments Ottawa
Psychological Assessments are used by psychologists to help determine a diagnosis and inform the course of treatment. There are many different components to these assessments such as different tests, interviews, school and medical records, medical information, and observation.
Psychological testing involves the use of reliable and valid questionnaires and hands-on manipulation of materials to help uncover the individual’s personality, psychological problems, intelligence level and aptitudes, vocational interests and so on.
Psychological assessments are usually done over multiple sessions and sometimes with multiple informants (individuals close to the client).Testing and assessments help the psychologist and client determine together what the nature and extent of his or her strengths and weaknesses are and what the best course of action would be.

An ASD diagnosis can go along with other brain differences (co-morbidities), such as ADHD or intellectual differences (e.g., giftedness). (Source)
What is an ASD assessment?
An ASD assessment is often like an ADHD or psychoeducational assessment with an added focus on social perception, communication, and adaptive skills. There is no medical test for ASD. The diagnosis is made by gathering information from parents and teachers (or others) about specific aspects of the individual’s development and behaviour, and by making systematic direct observations of behaviour. The clinician identifies what the person does that may be atypical and doesn’t do that would be expected of a typically developing individual at that age or level of development.
