Dr. Basevitz works collaboratively with his clients to set treatment goals and to individually tailor interventions. His therapeutic orientation may best be described as cognitive-behavioural (CBT), which involves working with his clients to identify obstacles that may be blocking them from getting what they want out of life and helping them to modify their approach. His work also involves helping clients to work toward a greater understanding of themselves and of their emotional experiences.
Dr. Basevitz completed his Honours B.A. in Psychology at the University of Ottawa. He received both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montreal. His training experiences have included work at various community clinics and hospitals, such as in-patient and cognitive-behavioural therapy units of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and at the Centre for Psychological Services, University of Ottawa. Prior to joining Gilmour Psychological Services® in 2005, Dr. Basevitz was on staff for two years with the Anxiety Disorders Program of the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
Dr. Basevitz is a past President of the Ottawa Academy of Psychology (2008-2010) and served on the executive of this organization for five years. He has also supervised doctoral students in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Psychological Services and at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. He currently co-leads a mentorship group for licensing year psychologists.
Dr. Basevitz is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. In support of the profession, he also maintains memberships in national, provincial, and local psychological associations. He is passionate about his work as a psychologist and keeps himself up to date on developments in the field by regularly attending educational workshops and lectures.
