Dr. Sandy Ages, C.Psych

Dr. Sandy Ages provides psychological services to children, adolescents, adults and their respective families. A broad range of problems may be presented, for example: depression, anxiety, anger, relationship issues, low self-esteem, sexual abuse, adjustment to life changes, grief, stress, job burn-out. Sensitive to the emotional issues of children experiencing separation/divorce, Dr. Ages addresses the thoughts, feelings and behaviours of the different family members during this family life change. Her practice also focuses on parent and child/adolescent communication, parenting styles/skills, problem-solving skills, and conflict resolution.

Dr. Ages maintains a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic orientation that is congruent with the individual needs of the client. She collaboratively establishes a treatment plan to address the client’s issues and to effectively meet their needs.

Dr. Ages has trained in behavioural, cognitive, and humanistic therapies as well as EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing). Sensitive to the client’s concerns she processes messages of the past and explores their impact on the individual’s present thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Her focus is to provide quality mental health care with proactive intervention of mental health problems.

Dr. Ages received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from McGill University and her Masters Degree of Psychology from the University of Toronto. She earned her Ph.D in Psychology from Carleton University, focusing her research on child sexual abuse intervention and prevention. Her academic training and professional career has afforded her the opportunity to work in various settings - two local school boards, one local private school, two psychiatric children’s outpatient departments, and a local youth social service agency.

Dr. Ages is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and is a member of the Ottawa Academy of Psychologists, the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. These associations encourage the scientific pursuit of greater understanding of human behaviour and the provision of higher quality care to the public. Dr. Ages believes this is an important commitment. She also maintains professional development through regular attendance at conferences and workshops.
