Religious & Spiritual Issues

Counselling for Religious & Spiritual Issues Ottawa

Religion and spirituality give many individuals a sense of meaning in their lives and can be a great resource for finding a sense of community. As well, religious and spiritual beliefs can provide comfort and strength in times of crisis.

Despite all of the positive aspects of religion and spirituality, they can also cause strain and stress. Major life events can raise difficult questions about religion and spirituality such as:

  • How could God let this happen?
  • Do I still believe in God?
  • Have I been abandoned by my religious or spiritual community?
  • How do I live up to my spiritual values during this time?

Religious and spiritual issues involve conflict about what individuals believe and have faith in. These struggles can lead to decreased mental health.

Nonetheless, there is also an opportunity to develop and grow from religious/spiritual challenges. A therapist can work with a client to explore complex or uncomfortable emotions surrounding religious/spiritual issues and offer support and coping mechanisms that address these unique challenges.
